Stand-Up Comedy Returns to Sarawak

KUCHING: La Promenade Mall will host the first stand‐up comedy shows in Sarawak since 2019 this July and September.

On July 29, La Promenade Mall will feature ‘Mad Sabah’ on his Kuching stop of his ‘Ndak Logik — National Tour’.

MAD SABAH: The stand-up comedian's first national tour will include a stop on Kuching.

“It’s my ‘greatest hits’ tour. I will be telling my best jokes from the past couple years for the final time. After this, I’ll work on new material. This tour is years of work,” said Mad Sabah, whose real name is Achmed Rusli.

“I can’t wait to perform in Kuching. It’s a wonderful time to tour.”

Prior to the pandemic, Mad Sabah’s been steadily rising to fame. His two prior tours, ‘Crazy Poor Asian’ and ‘Super Sabah’, were sell‐outs.

Ndak Logik is one of the first post‐Pandemic stand‐up tours in the whole of Malaysia.

The Sabahan comic, who Harith Iskandar called “the funniest and most authentic comedian”, recently sold out shows in Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Johor and his home state of Sabah.

The show at La Promenade Mall will be at the level five auditorium. The mall’s popular tenants — ZORO by Domus Group, NOMS, and Black Bean Coffee & Tea — will offer special pre‐show dinners from 6.30pm.

SUPPORT LOCAL: NOMS, Zoro and Black Bean Coffee & Tea are offering specials to all ticket holders of the stand‐up comedy shows.

ZORO is offering a three‐course set dinner, NOMS will provide free Ala‐carte upgrades to meals, while Black Bean will be doing discounts, and also serve beverages during the show.

“We are so excited to host Mad Sabah’s tour. It is high time for all of us to laugh together. Stand up comedy is an amazing art form that is gaining more and more popular, especially after Netflix,” mall digital marketing manager Sophia Ong said.

On September 3, La Promenade Mall will host Kavin Jay, the Malaysian comic whose Netflix one‐hour special “Everybody Calm Down!” was highly acclaimed.

FAMOUS: Kavin Jay, as featured on Netflix will also perform at La Promenade Mall.

Kavin’s tour called “I Am Sorry I Shouted!” is also his first since the pandemic.

“We’re delighted Kavin’s bringing his tour to Kuching, specifically, to La Promenade. As we are putting his Kuching show together, Kavin’s already sold out multiple shows in KL and Penang,” Ong said.

“Our mall’s facilities like the auditorium is perfect for stand‐up. As a lifestyle and community focused mall, we give a lot of priority to hosting events.

“Recently, we hosted the ABSTRACT2022, which generated over RM75,000 of art sold for six local artists, and held Sarawak and Sabah’s first running festival, which attracted 1,350 participants, including Singaporeans, who won the top prizes.”

Tickets for Mad Sabah is available at ndaklogikkuching.peatix.com.
