CHRISTMAS STREET: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council’s deputy chairman Daily Joseph and councillor Dato Sim Kiang Chiok with HSL's representatives at the La Promenade's Christmas Light Up Ceremony.

“It’s a joyous time of the year, and we love lighting up our real Christmas trees for the occasion,” said marcom lead Abraham Tiong.

“As everyone knows, there are nearly 1,800 Norfolk pine trees along La Promenade’s main boulevard, and we’ve lit up almost all of the trees in front of HSL Tower and the mall. It’s been a ‘tradition’ since 2021, and it’s always been popular. Every year, we find ways to make it better.”

Between the first and second year, HSL installed brighter and more energy efficient lights. In the fourth year of the event, colourful lights were added.

BRIGHTER: This year, HSL’s Christmas Street at La Promenade is brighter, and with extra light shows, snowfall, music, choir, festival market, photo and reels contests.

“For 2025, we are more than doubling the budget. We’ve gone back to the classic warm lights, and we’ve added snowfall machines. We are also experimenting with a light show. A member of our technical crew designed the circuit relay. It’s very exciting,” said senior building operations officer Clinton Jawa.

SNOW: Snow falls at La Promenade every Fri-Sun, between 8pm and 8.30pm. Inside the mall, eateries are offering Christmas specials too.

YULE LOG: Specially made Christmas only cakes by HSL’s in-house dessert chef Amini Yun, is available at Black Bean Coffee & Tea. HSL’s bar, Iced, is also offering mulled wine and other special cocktails.

CLINTON: HSL’s budget for the year-end festive decor has more than doubled. With that, we added more elements, like snow fall, and bought upgraded lights.

The duo was speaking to the media following a Lighting Up Ceremony on Friday (Nov 28) with Kota Samarahan Municipal Council’s deputy chairman Daily Joseph and councillor Dato Sim Kiang Chiok.

HSL is working with local churches — Gereja Methodist Iban Kuching and Samarahan Grace Methodist Church —for the shows.

CAPTURED: This year’s expanded contest includes a new category of reels (with its own prize monies) besides photos.

“Captured is an expansion of our highly popular photo contest. This year, we’re adding a separate reels category, with separate prizes. Participants can submit as many photos or reels as they want. The prizes are very attractive,” said Tiong.

HSL Tower and La Promenade Mall are part of a green 200-acre development, which was masterplanned as a “township within a park”.

The gated residential portion is known for its high-end landed houses (a third phase, Precinct Grande, just launched a new RM3.48 million showhouse) and is well known as a scenic photo spot.

Its tree-lined boulevard is one of Kuching’s most photographed streets during Christmas time every year.

Other community events include the annual HSL Samarahan Marathon and Oktoberfest, which is one of the major What About Kuching! (WAK) events.

La Promenade is HSL’s flagship 200-acre gated township between Kuching and Samarahan, known for its tree-lined boulevard and community events.
