Media Highlights - Hoan Gallery To Celebrate Malaysia Day With “Under Sarawak Skies”
La Promenade Mall’s Hoan Gallery is set to mark Malaysia Day with the launch of “Under Sarawak Skies” on Sept 16. The exhibition will feature more than 100 artworks created by over 30 artists from Singapore, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak.
Running from Sept 16 to Nov 8, the exhibition represents the culmination of the Sarawak Art Expedition & Field Trip Programme, which brought artists across the region to explore, experience and interpret Sarawak’s landscapes, communities, traditions and everyday way of life.
Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Under Sarawak Skies is among Hoan Gallery’s most ambitious exhibitions to date.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan is expected to visit the exhibition on Sept 17, 8pm, where he will also meet the artists, collectors, and speak at a media event.

Visitors can expect a dynamic experience throughout the two-month run, with Hoan Gallery introducing rotating selections of artworks alongside hands-on workshops and public programs.
A key highlight of the event is the exclusive preview of the “Under Sarawak Skies” documentary produced by Big Lau Studios, detailing the artists’ creative journey across the state.

For Catherine Moo, a Hoan Gallery team member who has been involved in the project from the beginning, seeing the exhibition come together has been a rewarding experience.
There is a great sense of accomplishment in seeing the journey we began in June finally come together as an exhibition.
“Every artist has seen Sarawak differently, and that is what makes this exhibition so special. Together, the works show just how much there is to see, experience and appreciate about Sarawak,” she said.

Selain pameran karya, Under Sarawak Skies turut menampilkan tayangan perdana dokumentari pendek terbitan Big Lau Studios yang memaparkan perjalanan serta pengalaman para pelukis sepanjang ekspedisi berkenaan.
Pemilihan dan susunan karya juga akan diubah secara berkala sepanjang tempoh pameran bagi memberikan pengalaman berbeza kepada pengunjung, selain disusuli dengan penganjuran bengkel seni.
