Citadines Langit Kuching Breaks Ground in Style with The Ascott Limited

Construction has commenced on one of East Malaysia’s most eagerly awaited high-rise projects, Citadines Langit Kuching.

Developer Hock Seng Lee (HSL) recently broke ground on the project, beginning with a two-storey basement.

This will be followed by a three-storey public plaza featuring commercial spaces, alongside Tower A (comprising 64 luxury condominiums) and Tower B (housing 220 fifth-generation Citadines units).

Here are the media highlights:

Langit is situated on a 0.8-acre leasehold tract in Jalan Tabuan, near Kuching’s city centre. It will be a mixed-use development comprising two 28-storey towers — Tower A with 64 condominium units and Tower B with 220 Citadines serviced residences managed and operated by Ascott — and a three-storey public plaza with commercial spaces.

The lead architect for the project is Sarawak-based architecture firm David Ong Architect, while the interior design will be handled by Ascott.

项目最大亮点之一是新加坡设计公司Salad Dressing打造的景观楼梯与绿化空间,串联底部3层,规划为少有的私人持有公共活动空间,未来将用于举报儿童游乐,音乐演出及艺术展览等活动。

GT: One of the biggest highlights of the project is the landscaped staircase and green space created by Singaporean design company Salad Dressing, which connects the bottom three floors and is planned as a rare privately owned public activity space. In the future, it will be used for activities such as children's play, music performances and art exhibitions.

Neat Plan (HSL Group) Director, Yu Ji, said this as he felt that there are not enough public spaces here. “Sometimes, as a local person during the weekends, we do not know where we can go to hang around, because there are not enough public places.

“So we at HSL had the opportunity to do something for Kuching City Centre.

“We made it a point that we wanted to use private investment to create a public space, especially for Citadines Langit Kuching, and that is why we made a rule that anything to do with a guardhouse, we would incorporate it, because it must be open to the public,” he said.

Citadines Langit Kuching is expected to become a new catalyst in Sarawak’s tourism sector, with a development inspired by the cultural diversity and natural beauty of the state.

Neat Plan (Hock Seng Lee Group) Director, Yu Ji, said the architectural design of Langit adopts a contemporary tropical approach, featuring a ‘facade screen’ element inspired by Dayak culture.

Sementara itu, Pengurus Besar Ascott Malaysia, Mondi Mecja, menyatakan bahawa projek ini amat penting buat kumpulan Ascott.

“Langit merupakan projek keutamaan kami. Kami mahu pasukan reka bentuk dalaman kami sendiri menerajui projek ini agar benar-benar menampilkan semangat Kuching dan Sarawak,” katanya.

Also, the development is targeting Green Building Index (GBI) certification.

“Langit benefits from excellent site orientation, with minimal direct sunlight. We have incorporated screens to shield occupants from heat while maximising natural light and ventilation,” said Lead Architect, Ar David Ong.

Kuching City South Council (MBKS) Dato Wee Hong Seng, who officiated the earth-breaking ceremony at the site today, said the presence of international hospitality brands such as Ascott plays an essential role in positioning Kuching on the global map.

“Today, we are proud to welcome the Citadines brand to our city through the launch of Langit - a development that exemplifies forward-thinking urban design harmoniously integrated with the lush greenery for Hock Seng Lee is widely acclaimed,” he said.

The development is expected to generate numerous jobs, particularly in the tourism and food and beverage sectors, and HSL’s commitment to using local materials and contractors will further boost the local economy.

Just in case you are wondering, Citadines Langit Kuching has been identified as one of the six massive hotel projects which will be built in Kuching in the near future.
