ZORO by Mr Domus coming to La Promenade Mall

KUCHING: A new restaurant, Zoro, by the Mr Domus Group, will open at La Promenade Mall, serving exciting western and Asian cuisine, with an emphasis on high-quality ingredients.

PREVIEW: IDC Architects is responsible for the interior architecture of the new Zoro, which is the largest restaurant at La Promenade Mall.

This will be the Domus Group’s third restaurant in Kuching, after its original outlet at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho and co-ownership of Trevi at Saradise. During the day, Zoro will serve mostly western favourites, offering a menu similar to Mr Domus and Trevi. “We’re taking the best of from our two establishments and refining them further at the new La Promenade Mall restaurant,” group founder Nathan Ngu said. “From evening, Happy Hour, onwards, we’ll serve more Asian inspired food. This will be unique to Zoro. There will be more lounge type, tapas style, offerings besides a wide selection of high-quality wines and cocktails.” As an emphasis on quality ingredients, Ngu’s new Zoro will feature a retail section. On sale daily will be imported goods like olive and truffle oils, pastas and nuts. Zoro’s entry to La Promenade Mall completes the ground floor eateries section. Zoro will occupy the largest space, some 3,000 sqft, on a corner lot that faces the tree-lined Jalan La Promenade, and a new park that has began construction. The new restaurant’s opening is inline with Hock Seng Lee’s policy to support local businesses at the mall. All eateries, from Zoro to Black Bean Coffee & Tea and NOMS, are Sarawakian brands. “This will be the Domus Group’s largest and most important outlet. Ngu worked closely with us on the space planning, ensuring this outlet has a kitchen big enough to have a bakery, hot food stations and dessert workshop,” senior mall leasing manager Trish Lui said. Zoro is interior designed with IDC Architects. Its principals Ngu and Tina Lau have shared experiences of working in Melbourne, Australia, in their respective fields.

“This restaurant’s layout, design and finishing are all from scratch. Ngu gave us his brief and we collaborated closely on all aspects. Zoro’s design is unlike any other we have done in Kuching. All major components were customised like counters, window facades and the entrance statement. “We’re very proud of Zoro at IDC. Ngu’s given as much emphasis on the ambience as he has given the taste of food. Prior to working together, many of us at IDC were already frequent diners at Mr Domus. We love their breakfast and brunch selections,” Lau said. Zoro will open October 22, daily, 9.30am-9.30pm. A full menu will be available at Zoro’s social media soon. Ngu said the first few months of Zoro’s operations will be dine-in and take-away only. Food deliveries will be added next year.

YUMMY: Zoro’s menu emphasises on quality ingredients and will make full use of its large and new kitchen at La Promenade Mall. La Promenade Mall is the first commercial development at Hock Seng Lee’s 200acre flagship estate. The gated community comprises landed-only luxury homes priced between RM1mil and RM3.8mil. The mall opened in Jan 2021 together with HSL Tower. Its anchor tenants are Choice Supermarket and Sweat Factory. Uniquely, level four comprises office suites and a 10,000sqft community space run by six non-governmental bodies, providing free counselling, tuition classes and crafts workshops for those with special needs.
