Share your best shots of a good day at La Promenade

KUCHING: Hock Seng Lee (HSL) has launched a #HuatsUpLaPromenade photo contest at its mall this Chinese New Year.

The month-long photo challenge is one of several contests with prizes lined up at the mall.

“We’re inviting everyone to La Promenade, take photos of our landscaping, our new year decor, our tenants’ good food and generally have a fantastic time. The contest is from now until Feb 28. Prizes total nearly RM3,000. It’s so easy to enter,” digital marketing manager Sophia Ong said.

Photos should be uploaded with #HuatsUpLaPromenade and #LaPromenadeMall hashtags. All entries must be set to “public” on either Facebook or Instagram. Winners shall be announced in early March.

PHOTO CHALLENGE: Submit as many entries as you like with #HuatsUpLaPromenade and #LaPromenadeMall hashtags.

A panel of experts includes photographers from Ben’s Medium. The winning photos will be celebrated in a gallery on HSL Group’s websites and social media. Photos may also appear in Living Moments, which is HSL’s newsletter.

“You can submit as many entries as you want. Some tips for participants: We’re looking for the best composition and we like fun, creative entries. Photos that are the most photoshopped or edited may not necessarily win. We also enjoy looking at photos that reflects Sarawak’s multi-cultural harmony,” Ong said.

This is the mall’s second Chinese New Year. New tenants include Zoro by Domus Group, NOMS, Fun Hut, MR DIY and Hoan Gallery.

“Every tenant has their own CNY promos. Do check them out. There are many time-limited stuff, like the new Mandarin Mocha drink at Black Bean Coffee & Tea.”

One of the mall’s anchor tenant, Sweat Factory on L4, is running a unique couples competition. The first prize for the most hardworking couple will win a fully-paid, multi-course meal, at the high-end Zoro restaurant with extra gift vouchers on Feb 14.

VALENTINE: Fitness centre Sweat Factory and Zoro restaurant, both at La Promenade Mall, are jointly organising a Valentine Challenge. The couple who works out will win a romantic dinner at the high-end restaurant.

“We’re calling it our Valentine Challenge. It’s designed for couples to work out and compete as a pair. Physical fitness aside, we want to promote a better sense of trust and communication between partners,” said fitness centre proprietor Richard Yu.

Other major events at La Promenade Mall this February include the starting of Leonard Siaw’s live painting sessions. Siaw is attempting a national record for the largest single-piece canvas painting at the mall measuring 15-meter wide, which is larger than two terraced houses put together.

“I’ve spent over two months doing figure studies and sketching out this piece. I’m now ready to start painting. I really wish to promote art in Sarawak. I’m very excited whenever the public responds positively to art, and I always enjoy talking to people who comes to see artists draw,” Siaw said.

RECORD: Leonard Siaw is attempting a national record. He aims to paint the largest single-piece canvas.

BONSAI: Sarawak Open 2022 at La Promenade Mall will be the largest ever with 168 participating trees.

“Feel free to say hi if you see me at the mall’s ground floor painting. My piece is opposite of Black Bean cafe.”

On Feb 23-28, the ‘Sarawak Open — Bonsai & Suseiki Championship’, which is the largest ever with 168 entries, will be held at La Promenade Mall.

This is the first Bonsai & Suseiki competition since 2019. Organisers, the Sarawak Bonsai Association (SBA) and HSL said it was no surprise the competition would be the largest ever.

“It’s been so long since we’ve competed. Over recent years, many members have had extra time to cultivate their plants. Some are coming as far as Miri. You know, they’ll have to drive all the way here. It’s going to be a beautiful show,” said organising chairman Hayes Teo.

“The previous largest show attracted 130 participants. This time, with the support of HSL, we’ll have more giant Bonsais too. Many are easily well over 300 kilos.”

The Sarawak Open is free for all to view. There will be talks and demonstrations.

2ND CNY: La Promenade Mall is at Kuching-Samarahan Expressway. Opened in Jan 2021, this is the mall's second CNY with plenty of community events in Feb.
