Hoan Gallery at La Promenade Mall presented its largest exhibition, “Fragments: Perceptions of Sarawak”, to the public.

The season opener brings together more than 70 works by six artists, spanning painting and object-based pieces. Visitors can expect works in oil, acrylic and watercolour, alongside dioramas, sculptures and installations.

For this season opener, we have a mix of paintings, small objects and room-filling installations. The gallery is proud to bring together artists of different ages, experiences, races and cultural backgrounds, with one shared theme: Sarawak.

It’s an exhibition about six different artists’ attempts to show what Sarawak is.

Here are the media highlights:

DayakDaily, Mar 5

According to the media press release today, the exhibition pairs established names with emerging Sarawakian  voices. Veteran artist Lee Choon Kooi, from Keda, is featured alongside young Sarawak talents including Brandon Ritom and M Shazy.

Utusan Borneo, Mar 5

Among the participating artists is Brandon Ritom, a Dayak painter whose oil works explore cultural continuity and ancestral heritage amid modernisation.

Ritom, who studied Art and Science at Central St Martins in London, is currently working on his largest piece titled ‘Dayung Borih Gawea Nguguoh, Kupo’ Raso II’.

The Borneo Post, Mar 6

Also featured is Marvin Chew, 51, a Sarawak-born, Singapore-based artist working in watercolour and acrylic.

Driven by nostalgia and an attachment to home, Chew paints Sarawak cityscapes and familiar corners with a restrained, atmospheric sensibility that evokes memory and longing.

Sin Chew Daily, Mar 6

Nolan Chee (59
