Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah launched the “2023 Sarawak Open - Bonsai & Suiseki Champion” on July 23 at La Promenade Mall.
At the opening, Karim also presented prizes, and toured the exhibition, with 185 Bonsai plants, and about 20 Suiseki stones and fossils.
The minister invited members of the public to view the show, which is until July 30, and to attend daily workshops and demos. Entry is free.
The grand opening received wide media coverage across all platforms.

“There are quarantine conditions set by the enforcers if one wants to bring in plants from outside Sarawak, but it is only subject to those entering to participate in a tournament. So we will wait for the organiser (the association) if they want to involve the participation of those from outside Sarawak to make it easier for them to organise a prestigious international event,” said Abdul Karim to the reporters.
