BIC Festival at La Promenade Mall unveils Sarawak's artistic treasures

The second annual Borneo Illustration and Creative (BIC) Festival is taking place at La Promenade Mall, June 24-July 9.


BIC returns better and even bigger than before, featuring artworks by past masters like the late Raphael Scott AhBeng, Norman Choo, and young talented teens.


Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah opened the two-week show at the mall last Saturday.

Abdul Karim shared that he is very impressed by young artists’ works which is a testament to their creativity and talent. Abdul Karim said these artists have big dreams and the potential to take the art world by storm.


“The area also houses the Borneo Cultures Museum, Natural History Museum, the Marine Museum and other places of interest. This place would be ideal for tourists and visitors who love the arts, museums, heritage and history,” says Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah

“Sudah dua kali saya menghadiri pameran berkaitan seni di La Promenade Mall dan saya gembira kerana HSL sememangnya memberikan sokongan kepada para artis mempamerkan hasil mereka,” ujarnya ketika ditemui pemberita.


Dengan usaha sedemikian jelasnya, ia berupaya membantu warga pelukis mempromosikan diri mereka ke peringkat antarabangsa. Beliau sendiri tambahnya, begitu mengagumi hasil lukisan anak seni tempatan Sarawak yang banyak ditempatkan di pejabat rasminya disini.

The festival, organised by Nia Latiff of Creative Umbrella Co, has the theme “Sarawak Day: The Revival of Cultural Celebrations” and offers an immersive experience to explore the rich artistic heritage of Sarawak.

“When there’s anything involving art, I leave it to the artists to tell us how they want the gallery to be done, who are the people that should be appreciated (for their arts) because we know that there are so many artists in Sarawak.” Abdul Karim said.

Malah beliau yakin usaha sedemikian dapat membantu pelukis mempromosikan diri mereka ke peringkat antarabangsa. Abdul Karim juga menasihati artis muda terutamanya melibatkan kanak-kanak perlu dibimbing oleh golongan profesional supaya berpotensi untuk mengharungi dunia seni.

“Pada masa sama, penubuhan galeri ini akan menjadi platform kepada artis tempatan untuk mempamerkan hasil karya lukisan mereka kepada orang ramai sekaligus dapat menjualnya . Perkara tersebut juga akan menjadikan Kucing sebagai salah satu bandar yang menarik untuk dilawati,” ujar Abdul Karim, berhubung rancangan Kerajaan untuk membina pusat seni baharu di pusat bandar Kuching.
