A Festive Gawai Dayak at La Promenade

KUCHING: Over Gawai Dayak, La Promenade Mall has lined up a host of events, from a Mazda roadshow to new food and a unique anti-drugs campaign with Hope Place and Bodhi Counselling.


The community mall along Kuching-Samarahan Expressway is hosting its busiest Dayak festive season since opening last year.


Starting this week until June 5, Rhino Automart is displaying two best-selling Mazda cars inside La Promenade Mall.

“Drop by our exhibit to view and experience the new Mazda CX-5 and Mazda 3. Both cars are new models that look fantastic, offering great performance with fuel efficiency,” the company’s sales manager Sharon Chong said.


Speak to the Rhino Automart representatives for the latest for deals and promos. The car show is in front of Ding Tea and Hock King Authentic Chicken Rice on level one.


The mall has also extended the highly successful ABSTRACT 2022.

ART: ABSTRACT 2022 has been extended by a week. The popular show has seen one-third of its exhibits sold within 10 days.


“Visitors and art pieces sold are beyond our expectations. It’s been a successful show attracting many art lovers and collectors. We gladly accepted La Promenade Mall’s invitation to extend until after Gawai so that more can enjoy the show,” said David Chew, who is Sarawak Artists Society president.


A dozen out of 33 pieces at ABSTRACT 2022 have been sold since the show opened May 14.


“We’re delighted to have received a wide range of visitors from VIPs like Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting to school students and families for the art workshops,” Chew added.


La Promenade’s eateries are introducing new menu items this festive season.

NOMS is adding a Surf n Turf burger, which consist of Cajun butter shrimp and Australian beef patty. The item is time-limited, starting this week.


At Black Bean Coffee & Tea, the cafe is introducing a new Green Tea Espresso on June 1. “It’s a lovely combination of finely ground Japanese green tea leaves and two shots of espresso. We serve it ice cold. It’s beautiful,” cafe manager Syarifah Norfatimah Wan Sekeran said.

“For Sarawak’s largest festive season, we have the most amazing Ayam Pansuh with fragrant coconut rice.


“We’re also offering Ayam Kunyit and uniquely — ‘Tepung Bungkus’. Our version of Tepung Bungkus is a family recipe of one of our baristas. We make sure everything we offer is authentic.”

AUTHENTIC: A special Dayak menu has been created at Black Bean for the festive season. It includes favourites like Ayam Pansuh and specials like Tepung Bungkus.


Finally, the mall is collaborating with Bodhi Counselling and Hope Place to host an “Anti Drugs Education Programme” as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, Healthy Bodies, Happy Minds.


The awareness campaign includes games, real-life stories sharing sessions, and talks on healthy living. The charity event is free for all.
